The Problem

Almost 70% women in India of childbearing age face the problem of Dysmenorrhea, or painful menstruation. This issue is not properly tackled, leaving women in having to do daily activities even when they are in a lot of pain.

THE CONTEXT

(1.01) What is Dysmenorrhea?

Dysmenorrhea is a condition which causes intense cramping in the lower back, abdomen, hips and thighs during the menstrual cycle. The pain goes up to several degrees and women might have to resort to bedrest in some cases. Dysmenorrhea can significantly impact a woman's daily life, leading to missed school or work days, reduced productivity, and emotional distress.

(1.02) How can it be tackled through heat and massage therapies?

Shiatsu massage: This type of massage focuses on applying pressure to specific points on the body, known as acupressure points, to stimulate the body's natural healing abilities. Shiatsu massage can help to relax the muscles, improve circulation, and reduce inflammation.  

Compression massage: This massage technique involves applying direct pressure to the abdomen to reduce spasms and muscle tension. It can also help to improve circulation and decrease inflammation.

ThermaCalm is essentially a portable heating and massage pad, backed by Artificial Intelligence on your mobile, tablet or smartwatch. Be it the perfect relief system for your pain, or having someone to talk to, or want to listen to the perfect playlist to boost your mood, we’ve got you covered!

ThermaCalm works on self-reported and gathered data to curate the perfect experience suited just for you.

Various Infrared sensors, will work together and fetch observations.
These will be processed by Transductors, and the conclusions and health history will be either displayed on the device screen, or can be accessed by connecting the device to a phone or smartwatch.
This way, the heating pad can work offline as well. Depending on predictions that the pad suggests, users can still put this pad to good use.

(6.02) What is E-ink? Why use it?

E-Ink, also known as electronic paper, is a display technology that mimics the appearance of traditional ink on paper, using millions of tiny microcapsules containing charged black and white particles.

  3. Not too bright, they will help with a discreet finishing.

  4. They don’t heat up.

  5. Work the same as any normal screen.
